Avril Lavigne told fans last year that she had begun work on a new album due out in 2017, but she has doubled down on the news with an announcement on her Instagram.
The 32-year-old has been battling lyme disease for the past two years, and is now well enough to return to what she does best: music. Lavigne also announced her signing to a new label.
“For this album I have a new team behind me, and I just signed to BMG. At this point in my career and in my life I just wanted to put fresh energy around me and I feel like I’m having somewhat of a rebirth in my life,” Lavigne said in a statement.

“I’ve been faced with a lot, gone through a lot emotionally. The whole writing process has been therapeutic and empowering,” she continued. “This album is a natural process for me and it’s coming from a very honest place. My hope is that it is an inspiration to many people.”
In her Instagram post, the “Girlfriend” singer put it simply: “Without trying to make an album, I’ve made one.”
While no release date has been set, 2017 has good things in store for the Canadian. It will mark her first studio album since her 2013 self-titled record.
