To the surprise of no one with a toddler, “Baby Shark” has become the most-watched video on YouTube.
The video for a remix of the song from Pinkfong!, the creation of South Korean educational company SmartStudy, has surpassed “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee as the No. 1 video on the platform.
Since being uploaded in June 2016, it has been viewed a whopping 7.05 billion times – including nearly 5 billion in the last two years alone. “Despatico” is close behind with 7.04 billion views since June 2017.
“Baby Shark,” based on a traditional singalong from the 1900s (check out a German techno variation from 2008 here), the song has spawned one about monkeys as well as a Christmas version and at least one celebrity tribute.
