Michael Bublé has responded to Billie Eilish after she named him as the inspiration for her single “My Future.”
On Wednesday, the Canadian singer tweeted at Eilish: “I’m a huge fan. I just heard your story about ‘Haven’t Met You Yet.’ Music is a great healer and writing really helped me during some tough times. Your music inspires me and I am so touched that mine has done the same for you.”
In an interview with BBC Radio 1, Eilish explained how “My Future” came to her after finding a video of herself at 14 years old listening to Bublé’s 2009 hit “Haven’t Met You Yet.” She recalled listening to the song “night and day just because it made me hopeful.”
Eilish explained: “I was also really depressed at the time and sad all the time, and that song made me excited for the future.”
The singer said she didn’t realize the influence Bublé’s song had on “My Future” until after penning the chorus.
“It was so exactly what I was feeling and thinking and wanted to convey and wanted to say and wanted to be heard,” she said.
Eilish’s brother and music collaborator FINNEAS retweeted Bublé’s response and added: “BUBLÉ HAS SPOKEN.”
