Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath has weighed in “WAP.”
“Cardi B pisses me off with that ‘WAP’ song,” the veteran rocker told Kerrang! “It’s disgusting! But there you go.”
The song, released in August, has been both heralded as a feminist anthem and criticized as too explicit.
“A friend of mine didn’t know what the song was about but his 10-year-old girl was singing it! I was like ‘What?!,’” Butler fumed. “To put it on [an] album, fair enough. But to put it out as a single? That’s a bit much.
“Then again, I’m 71. A bloody old goat!”
Last month, Blondie’s Debbie Harry admitted she had “WAP” envy. “I love it! I LOVE it!,” the 75-year-old singer told NME. “At first I was going: ‘Wow, I wish I could do something like that,’ knowing full well that I couldn’t. But I wish I could.”
Harry called the track “very sexy and hot and naughty – perhaps even dirty.”
Shortly after debuting "WAP," Cardi B told an iHeartRadio Australia station: “The people that the song bothers are usually conservatives or really religious, fake religious, people, but my thing is I grew up listening to this type of music. So to other people, it might be strange and vulgar, but to me it's almost like really normal.
"I don't want my child to listen to this song but it's for adults, like, f**k it."
