BLACKPINK is making other groups green with envy this week.
The K-pop group’s “Kill This Love” video, which debuted April 4, became the fastest music video to hit 100 million views on YouTube since Psy's "Gentleman" in 2013.
The video was viewed 56.7 million times in its first 24 hours on the platform, breaking a record held by Ariana Grande’s “thank u next” (with 55.4 million).
“Kill This Love” also propelled BLACKPINK to the top of the U.S. iTunes chart, making it the first all-female group since Destiny’s Child in 2004 at No. 1. (The song has since fallen out of the Top 100.)
On Friday, BLACKPINK’s set at Coachella (they’re the first K-pop girl group to perform at the festival) will be broadcast live on the eight-storey video screen in New York City’s Times Square.
“Kill This Love” is the title track of the group’s sophomore EP. They perform April 27 at FirstOntario Centre in Hamilton, Ont.
