Blondie have released an interstellar visual accompaniment for their track “Fun”. It’s the first single off of the band’s 11th EP, Pollinator.
The video contrasts Blondie in stark black and white with footage of a woman hurtling into space and exploring a new planet. It was directed by Beyoncé collaborator Dikayl Rimmasch, who contributed to her Lemonade film and world tour.
“It was amazing to be on the other side of the glass from her when those ‘Debbie moments’ happened,” Rimmasch said in an interview. “It felt like I had stepped into a parallel dimension.”

Blondie guitarist Chris Stein spoke to NME about the video, explaining that the planetary escape was a metaphor for escaping the current climate of unrest in the U.S.
“Quoting Emma Goldman, ‘If I can’t dance I don’t want to be part of your revolution,’” he told NME. “In these trying times we need some fun. We’re very serious about fun.”
“The video was shot in two places,” Stein added. “The colour stuff was all shot in L.A. without us and the black and white stuff was shot in New York. It’s got some good cameos – it’s got a pretty big cameo from Raja, who’s one of the Drag Race superstars, and little cameos from Grace McKagan, Duff McKagan’s daughter who has a band called The Pink Slips, and also Tony Maserati, who was a producer and mixer for us.”
Pollinator hits shelves May 5 and is the result of collaborations with Johnny Marr, Sia, Charli XCX, The Strokes guitarist Nick Valensi and Dev Hynes. Blondie will also embark on a North American tour, co-headlining with Garbage, which kicks off July 5.
