Brad Paisley and his wife Kimberly are helping the less fortunate in Nashville by opening a food bank that operates as a grocery store.
The country star said The Store offers people who have fallen on hard times some dignity.
“All of us are one unforeseen disaster away from rock bottom,” Paisley told The Tennessean. “It’s nice to think about a place where when that happens to someone, they can use it to get back on their feet.”
The Store will provide groceries – including fresh foods – to people in need for one year. It also plans to set up a toy aisle during the holiday season stocked with donated items.
Paisley and his wife were inspired by a similar operation in Santa Barbara, California, where they took their sons to volunteer one Thanksgiving.
A campaign is currently underway to raise the estimated $1.2 million U.S. needed to build The Store. The Paisleys reportedly made a donation to kick off the campaign.
