Brian Wilson announced Thursday he is postponing a string of concerts to focus on his mental health.

A dozen U.S. shows scheduled between June 7 and 23 are affected.

“In the last year or so I’ve had 3 surgeries on my back. The surgeries were successful and I’m physically stronger than I’ve been in a long time,” read a statement from Wilson on his website. “However, after my last surgery I started feeling strange and it’s been pretty scary for awhile. I was not feeling like myself. Mentally insecure is how I’d describe it.

“It’s not good for me to be on the road right now.”

Wilson said he has been in the studio recording and rehearsing with his band but he has been “struggling with stuff in my head and saying things I don’t mean and I don’t know why.”

The Beach Boys co-founder said he needs time to “rest, recover and work with my doctors.”

Wilson’s tour is scheduled to resume Aug. 9 in Waterloo, NY.
