A folk singer from Yorkshire, England is bringing back memories of simpler times to Canadians of a certain age with her cover of the theme song to The Littlest Hobo.

Kate Rusby included a version of the late-70s song on her 17th studio album Hand Me Down, her first collection of cover songs.

“Maybe Tomorrow” was written by Toronto jingles composers Terry Bush and John Crossen as the theme song for the CTV reboot of The Littlest Hobo, which ran for six seasons from 1979 to 1985. Thanks to syndication, the show and its theme song are known around the world.

“I was just trying to write a nice song, and get the rolling feel of the dog running through the woods,” Bush, who performed the vocals, told Socan Magazine in 2012. “And John wrote beautiful lyrics that captured the whole feeling of the show.”

Bush told BC Living he was not paid for writing the music “and consequently retained my writing royalties.” He included a full-length version of the song on his 2005 album of the same name.

Bush, 78, lives in the Toronto area. Crossen died in 2018 at 73.

Rusby’s Hand Me Down also includes her versions of tracks by Taylor Swift, The Cure and Bob Marley.
