Britney Spears was almost on the receiving end of that iconic kiss in the rain that Ryan Gosling laid on Rachel McAdams in The Notebook.
In her upcoming memoir, The Woman In Me, the Princess of Pop reveals that she nearly reunited with Gosling, her fellow Mickey Mouse Club alum, to play Allie to his Noah in Nick Cassavetes' 2004 film.
Spears writes, "The Notebook casting came down to me and Rachel McAdams, and even though it would have been fun to reconnect with Ryan Gosling after our time on the Mickey Mouse Club, I'm glad I didn't do it."
After starring as the lead in 2002's Crossroads, Spears says she wasn't too upset about losing out to McAdams. "[Crossroads] was pretty much the beginning and end of my acting career, and I was relieved," she writes.
Crossroads, which returns to cinemas next week for a special engagement, proved to be a trying experience for the pop-star-turned-actor. She recalls how she turned to method acting to nail the role of Lucy, a teenager who takes off on a road trip with friends after high school graduation.
"I ended up walking differently, carrying myself differently, talking differently," she writes. "I was someone else for months while I filmed Crossroads. Still to this day, I bet the girls I shot that movie with think, She's a little...quirky. If they thought that, they were right."
Spears adds that she feels she's done with acting, saying, "I hope I never get close to that occupational hazard again. Living that way, being half yourself and half a fictional character, is messed up. After a while you don't know what's real anymore."
The Woman In Me is set for release on October 24.
