Britney Spears took a break from lip-syncing her hits on Saturday night to perform a Canadian song.
During her Britney: Piece of Me show in Las Vegas, the 35-year-old pop star admitted it felt “kind of illegal” to hold a live mic.
Before launching into her version of “Something to Talk About,” which was written by New Brunswick’s Shirley Eikhard — and became a big hit for Bonnie Raitt in 1991 — Spears spoke about the media attention she has received throughout her career.
“One minute they tear you down, and that's really horrible, and the next minute you're on top of the world,” she said. “But I've never really spoke about it.
“I'm from the South, and I like to keep it real, so I just want to make sure I keep having you motherf**kers something to talk about.”
Eikhard, who hails from Sackville, was named Best Country Female Artist at the Juno Awards in 1973 and 1974. “Something to Talk About” earned her a Juno nomination for Songwriter of the Year in 1992.
Spears is scheduled to wrap up her Vegas residency on New Year’s Eve.
