The upcoming memoir, The Woman In Me, from Britney Spears has been making a lot of headlines leading up to its October 24 release date. And despite the overwhelming interest in all of the excerpts and quotes revealed so far, Spears wants it to be known that her book was not written with any malicious intent.
The reclusive pop star took to Instagram to let it be known that she wasn't looking to ruffle any feathers with her life story.
"My book’s purpose was not to offend anyone by any means !!! That was me then … that is in the past !!! I don’t like some of the headlines I’m reading … that’s exactly why I quit the music business four years ago !!!" she writes.
Spears points out that a lot of what was written happened a long time ago, and that her life is different now.
"Most of the book is from 20 years ago … I have moved on and it’s a beautiful clean slate from here !!!" she adds. "I am here to establish it that way for the rest of my entire life !!! Either way, this is the last of it and s**t happens !!! This is actually a book I didn’t know needed to be written … although some might be offended, it has given me closure on all things for a better future !!! Hopefully I can enlighten people who feel particularly alone in most cases or hurt or misunderstood !!!"
She calls out the tabloids and, ahem, press, for focusing on her past, noting that she has moved on.
"Again, my motive for this book was not to harp on my past experiences which is what the press is doing and it’s dumb and silly !!!," she closes. "I have moved on since then !!! #TheWomanInMe"
