In honour of Pride Month, some of pop’s biggest luminaries, including Britney Spears, Selena Gomez, Elton John, have joined forces to share their love and appreciation for the LGBTQ community. Billboard rounded up over dozens of stars for the initiative, which even included a handwritten letter from the Las Vegas showstopper.
"This is my letter of love to all my LGBTQ fans," Britney kicks off the letter. "Continuously throughout my career, you've always been so vocal about what a positive impact I've had on you – that I've instilled joy, hope and love in you at times when there was none. That my music is an inspiration. That my story gives you hope."
Later on in the note, Spears made a heartwarming reveal about her loyal followers. "But I have a secret to share with you," she continued. "You see, it's actually you that lifts me up. The unwavering loyalty. the lack of judgment. The unapologetic truth. Acceptance! Your stories are what inspire me, bring me joy and make me and my sons strive to be better people," she continued, adding, "I love you. Britney"
Meanwhile, in Gomez's letter, the pop star shared an interesting story about watching Madonna's iconic Truth Or Dare documentary. "My co-writer Justin Tranter couldn't believe I had never seen the Madonna documentary Truth Or Dare and so while we were in Mexico he sat me down to watch it with him," she recalled. "I loved it and was especially struck by how groundbreaking it was for the gay rights movement and how far LGBTQ rights have come in my lifetime. There is still a significant amount of work to do and I look forward to the day when a person is never judged, discriminated or feared for their sexuality.” Well said.
Sia, Christina Aguilera, Elton John, Celine Dion, Kelly Clarkson, Kacey Musgraves, RuPaul and Melissa Etheridge and several other musicians and LGBTQ activists were also part of Billboard's new campaign. Click here to read all of their love letters to the LGBTQ community.
