Bryan Adams apologized Tuesday for an expletive-laced social media post that many people viewed as racist.
“Apologies to any and all that took offence to my posting yesterday,” the Canadian singer wrote. “No excuse, I just wanted to have a rant about the horrible animal cruelty in these wet-markets being the possible source of the virus, and promote veganism.”
Adams, a longtime animal rights advocate, deflected accusations that his comments were directed at the people of Wuhan, China.
“I have love for all people and my thoughts are with everyone dealing with this pandemic around the world,” he wrote.
On Monday, Adams posted: “Tonight was supposed to be the beginning of a tenancy of gigs at the @royalalberthall, but thanks to some f**king bat eating, wet market animal selling, virus making greedy bastards, the whole world is now on hold. My message to them other than 'thanks a f**king lot’ is go vegan."
Adams, who lives in London, was scheduled to do three consecutive nights at the prestigious concert venue beginning Monday night but had to bump the shows to April 13-15, 2021.
The comments sparked outrage on social media.
