K-pop group BTS and rock band Green Day have joined a growing list of acts scrapping concerts due to the coronavirus outbreak.
BTS said Thursday the decision to cancel the first four concerts on the Map of the Soul world tour was made “after extensive and careful consideration.” The shows were scheduled for April 11, 12, 18 and 19 at Jamsil Olympic Stadium in Seoul.
BTS is scheduled to do two nights at Toronto’s Rogers Centre in May.
Green Day pulled the plug on the Asian portion of its tour, which was scheduled to begin March 8 in Singapore and included Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea.
“We have unfortunately made the difficult decision to postpone our upcoming shows in Asia due to the health + travel concerns with coronavirus,” read a statement from the band on social media. “We know it sucks, as we were looking forward to seeing you all, but hold on to your tickets we’ll be announcing the new dates very soon.”
The Green Day tour with Fall Out Boy and Weezer comes to Toronto in August.
In mid-February, R&B star Khalid cancelled an Asian tour that was scheduled to run from March 24 to April 14 over concerns for “the safety of Khalid’s fans, his team and everyone who has been working on these concerts.”
Dozens of concerts by various artists – from U.S. rock band Ambassadors to K-pop group Seventeen have been cancelled or postponed due to fears of coronavirus.
