Cage the Elephant frontman Matt Schultz was arrested Thursday night in New York City for possession of firearms.
An employee of the Bowery Hotel called police after seeing an apparently intoxicated man pull a gun out of his pocket.
According to prosectors, police found two loaded guns in a bag in the 39-year-old singer’s room as well as 11 photos of the guns and six handwritten notes – including one declaring “I will protect myself if I’m attacked.”
Schultz was charged with criminal possession of a firearm and was released from custody on Friday after posting $10,000 U.S. bail.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 22.
At Schultz’s arraignment, his lawyer said the guns were purchased legally but not registered in New York.
Cage the Elephant won Grammys for Best Rock Album in 2020 and 2017.
