Members of Canadian indie rock band Calpurnia are appealing for donations as their manager undergoes treatment for myelofibrosis, a cancer of the bone marrow.
Adam “Bix” Berger is co-head of Toronto’s Royal Mountain Records.
“His incredible daughter Quinn has set up a GoFundMe to help fund his lengthy hospital stay and treatment, and Bix needs all the love and support he can get at the moment,” read a message on Calpurnia’s Instagram page. “He’s a strong and dignified man who’s helped us all immeasurably. It would mean the world to us if you considered donating to the gofundme to help Bix and his family.”
Calpurnia is the Vancouver band fronted by Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard, who donated $1,000. Calpurnia's Ayla Tesler-Mabe and Jack Anderson also contributed to the fund and donors include label mate PUP and Broken Social Scene's Kevin Drew and his label Arts & Crafts.
The GoFundMe for Berger, which was set up in September, has to date raised more than $26,000 of its $65,000 goal. The funds will be used to cover “significant medical costs not covered by insurance” and to help Berger during a recovery that could keep him from working for up to a year.
On the GoFundMe page, Berger’s daughter Quinn writes: “He’s the father of two amazing children, a friend to so many, a music lover and a veteran in the music business who loves working with musicians and helping them with their careers.”
