Camila Cabello is asking fans to be kind as rumours swirl that she has split from boyfriend Matthew Hussey.
“If you really love me, please do not send people I love and care about hateful things,” the pop star pleaded in an Instagram Story. “You doing that really hurts me, and it's so unnecessary and heavy and damaging to add more pain to pain.
“There’s a real person behind your tweets. You spamming them with hateful, insensitive things is really not funny, is causing all of us pain, and doesn't all reflect the values I talk about.”
Cabello didn’t specify what or who she’s referring to but the appeal came shortly after multiple reports were published claiming she and Hussey have ended their relationship after more than a year.
“Please be kind and compassionate and sensitive and respectful. I know you love me, but anyone that's doing that is really not even respecting the sacred things in my life,” Cabello added. “The people I love and care about is one of them. I would really appreciate it if you would delete any mean comments you've sent, and please be kind by leaving it alone.”
Neither Cabello nor Hussey have confirmed the reports.
Some fans are hoping the rumoured split is related to Cabello’s recent collaboration with Shawn Mendes, the sultry single “Señorita” – but both singers have repeatedly said they are nothing more than friends.
Hollywood Life quoted an unnamed source as saying: "Shawn was in no way a catalyst in Camila’s breakup with Matthew but are they using the news to their advantage with their new song dropping? Absolutely!"
On Wednesday, US Weekly erroneously reported that Mendes’ mother took to Instagram to share her reaction to speculation that her son is dating Cabello. (She didn't, the account is a fake.)
Last year, Cabello told Billboard she doesn’t want to fuel gossip about her private life. “I just don't like it,” she said. “I just want to be a good artist. I don't want to be a great celebrity. I'm not!”
