Another Canadian is being honoured at this month’s Billboard Women in Music event.
Alessia Cara will receive the “Rule Breaker” award, which celebrates “a boundary-pushing female music star whose approach defies the conventional.”
On Twitter, Cara said she “never thought I would be awarded for breaking rules” and called the tribute “so so so cool.”
The 20-year-old from Brampton, Ont. will be honoured at the same time as Canadian superstar Shania Twain, who is receiving the Icon award.
Cara’s hits include “Here,” “Wild Things” and “Scars to Your Beautiful.”
This year’s Woman of the Year recipient is Madonna. Also being recognized are Halsey (Rising Star), Andra Day (Powerhouse), Meghan Trainor (Chart Topper), Maren Morris (Breakthrough Artist) and Kesha (Trailblazer).
The event takes place Dec. 9 in New York City.
