Weezer enlisted Canadian actor Finn Wolfhard to portray frontman Rivers Cuomo in the video for the band’s cover of a-ha’s “Take On Me.”
The 16-year-old Stranger Things star, as Cuomo in 1985, is backed by his real-life Calpurnia bandmates.
“This video was an absolute blast to film and I’m so excited for everyone to see it,” Wolfhard said, in a release. “Calpurnia has covered Weezer in the past and I’m really honoured that they asked us to do this.”
The other members of the Vancouver indie band are Ayla Tesler-Mabe, Jack Anderson and Malcolm Craig.
Directed by Carrick Moore Gerety, the video for “Take On Me” pays tribute to a-ha’s groundbreaking 1985 video with some pencil-sketch animation.
Weezer’s “Take On Me” appears on The Teal Album, which was released last month. The band plays Montreal’s Bell Centre on March 13 and Vancouver’s Rogers Arena on April 7.
