Canadian artist Grimes is selling a piece of her soul.
The Vancouver native, who was born Claire Boucher but calls herself c, got her lawyer to draft a contract for the transaction.
“I didn’t want anyone to buy it, so I said we should just make it $10 million and then it probably won’t sell,” Grimes told Bloomberg. When COVID-19 slammed the economy, the singer figured she had to accept the ”best offer” for a stake in her soul.
“The idea of fantastical art in the form of legal documents just seems very intriguing to me,” she said.
The sale is part of Selling Out, an online exhibition of her art on Gallery Platform (until June 3) and Maccarone (until Aug. 31) in Los Angeles. It is the first time she has sold her work, she said, since receiving $600 to paint a mural in Vancouver 15 years ago.
Grimes recently welcomed son X Æ A-Xii (whom she calls “Little X”) with billionaire Elon Musk.
