Toronto-formed band Steppenwolf is among the nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's Class of 2017.
The diverse list of nominees was announced Tuesday morning.
Tupac Shakur, Janet Jackson, Chaka Khan, and Chic are in the running, representing Hip-Hop, R&B, and Soul.
Rock bands The Cars, The Zombies, Jane’s Addiction, Pearl Jam, Journey and Yes are in the running and the Hall has selected some folk, electronic and pop musicians like MC5, Joan Baez and Kraftwerk.
Rounding out the wide array of nominees are Depeche Mode, Bad Brains, J. Geils Band, and Joe Tex.
Bands become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their debut album.
Steppenwolf was formed in 1961 by Ontario's John Kay, Goldy McJohn, and Jerry Edmonton. The band went on to sell more than 25 million albums worldwide thanks to hits like "Born To Be Wild" and "Magic Carpet Ride."
Who makes it into the Hall of Fame next year will be determined by the votes of 800 artists, historians and music industry insiders.
