Canadian musician Tad Campbell, frontman for ‘80s band Idle Eyes, was found guilty Wednesday of sexually assaulting an underage girl more than 20 years ago.
B.C. Supreme Court Justice Michael Brundrett acquitted the 65-year-old of a second charge of sexual interference. Campbell’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for Dec. 18.
Idle Eyes, best known for its hit “Tokyo Rose,” was named most promising group at the Juno Awards in 1985.
Campbell’s victim, now 33, said he gave her a massage in her parents’ bedroom when she was between the ages of nine and 11 (Campbell, a friend of her father, was babysitting). While she was on all-fours, he had one hand on her chest and stomach and one on her back, under her clothing. She said one of his arms was between her legs.
In the 1985 song “Danger,” Campbell sings: “I didn't know how old you were / I didn't really think it would go this far / I didn't know what you were waiting for / I should have stayed away / I’m standing in the danger zone.”
