Canadian rock band Sum 41 is calling it quits.
Fans got the news Monday via a statement shared on social media.
“We will still be finishing all of our current upcoming tour dates this year, and we’re looking forward to releasing our final album, Heaven :x: Hell, along with a final worldwide headlining tour to celebrate,” it reads.
Deryck Whibley, Steve Jocz, Richard Roy and Jon Marshall formed the band in Ajax, Ontario in 1996 as Kaspir and then as Supernova. Sum 41’s debut album All Killer No Filler came in 2001 and was followed by six more.
“Being in Sum 41 since 1996 brought us some of the best moments of our lives,” the statement reads. “We are forever grateful to our fans both old and new, who have supported us in every way. It is hard to articulate the love and respect we have for all of you and we wanted you to hear this from us first.”
Sum 41 currently consists of Whibley, Dave Baksh, Jason McCaslin, Tom Thacker and Frank Zummo.
In 2019, Whibley told iHeartRadio: “It’s hard for me to hear old stuff or go back and listen to anything. I usually just hate it all. I can’t stand my voice.”
Last year, he sold his publishing and recorded music catalogue to HarbourView Equity Partners but terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In its message to fans, the members of Sum 41 said they were looking forward to the forthcoming tour.
“Thank you for the last 27 years of Sum 41.”
