Canadian actor-singer Nick Cordero is unconscious in an ICU with suspected COVID-19.
“Nick has been sick for awhile with what we were told last week was pneumonia,” his wife Amanda Kloots shared on Instagram. “Unfortunately we think he was misdiagnosed and we are waiting to hear if this is in fact COVID.
“He is scared, in the ICU and now unconscious so his body can get enough oxygen.”
The 41-year-old Hamilton, Ont. native dropped out of Toronto's Ryerson University to join rock-soul band LoveMethod. He starred in Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding in Toronto and worked in shows onboard cruise ships before finding work on the stages of New York City. Cordero starred in Rock of Ages on Broadway as well as Waitress and A Bronx Tale. He earned a Tony Award nomination in 2014 for playing Cheech in Bullets Over Broadway.
“We are all trying to stay positive and strong knowing that he is in the best care,” Kloots wrote. “I miss him terribly. I’m not allowed there to visit of course and can do nothing to help him. Nick is scared too, this has gone from bad to worse. He isn’t allowed to eat or drink, he is very weak and having a hard time breathing.
Kloots said she and the couple’s 10-month-old son Elvis “are feeling fine.” She urged people to take COVID-19 seriously.
“Please stay home everybody.”
