Someone representing Cardi B said Sunday the rap star is not responsible for posting a meme that has been criticized as transphobic.
“It’s come to my attention that there have been offensive posts made on what used to be my Facebook page,” reads a tweet on Cardi's account. “For the past year and a half a FORMER team member has been the only one with access to the account.”

The meme featured a cartoon and the word “tranny.”
Actress Laverne Cox was among the people who reacted on social media. “I am a huge advocate for free speech but as long as its socially acceptable to make jokes about trans people, to make and share memes disparaging & demeaning trans folks, trans folks will continue to be murdered & denied civil rights.”
Not everyone is buying the explanation from Cardi B’s camp and many noted that there was no apology. Some have pointed out that she previously defended use of the word because trans people use it. “Let’s not front like they don’t,” she said in a live Twitter video earlier this year.
One tweet in response to Cardi’s message on Sunday read: “YOUR ACCOUNT. YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. END OF STORY.”
