Cardi B found herself on Sunday defending her right to spend her own money in a Twitter spree in which she showed off her charitable side.
The vitriol from strangers came after the rap star tweeted a simple question: “Should I spend 88K for this damn purse ? Omggg it’s tempting.”
Cardi was immediately slammed as insensitive. “Donate the money to hungry people,” someone opined. “Tweets like this are why we want to eat the rich.”
The “WAP” star responded by sharing screenshots and links to stories about her generosity and philanthropy – including a $1 million U.S. donation to COVID-19 relief in April and a gift of 200,000 meal supplements to frontline workers in New York. She also pointed out that she gave more than $1 million to fans in need this year.
Cardi then challenged the haters to provide receipts “on what YOU have donated” and promised: “I will match what you donated and match your donation to that same charity or foundation.”
The rapper made it clear that how she spends her money is nobody’s business.
“I didn’t offended no body, didn’t do nothing illegal,” she tweeted. “Im not going to apologize because I work my a** off … Ya want to be hurt so bad
“ALL I DID WAS ASK ABOUT A F**KIN PURSE ! I’m getting scared to tweet … These new generation Americans are different types of crybabies.”
Cardi later declared: “Definitely buying the bag now.”
The rapper recently complained: “Social media is becoming a very toxic place nowadays … They want you to be Mother Teresa.”
