Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion have helped 2,000 people in the U.S. and UK receive handouts of $500 each from Cash App and Twitter to mark the success of their collaboration "WAP."
“Y’all made #WAP amazing,” Cardi tweeted. “We’re partnering with Twitter and Cash App to give away a total of $1 million … to celebrate all you powerful women out there. tell us why you or a woman you know can use a piece of the $.”
Stallion shared a similar message. “How can some $ help you or a woman you know right now?”
Both rap stars then started retweeting messages from fans who received the free money. (None of the cash came directly from Cardi B or Megan Thee Stallion.)
Only people in the U.S. and UK are eligible for the handouts (Cash App is not available in Canada) and the promotion ends at 8 pm ET Thursday.
Previously, pop stars like Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and Bebe Rexha have transferred money to fans. In March, Swift sent $3,000 payments to fans via PayPal, Grande sent $1,000 payments via Venmo and Rexha promised to Cash App handouts to fans worried about paying their bills due to the COVID-19 crisis.
