Cardi B returned to Twitter on Tuesday after a brief hiatus and defended Rita Ora’s new song “Girls.”
The rap star, Bebe Rexha and Charli XCX are featured on the track, which has come under fire for suggesting that all it takes to be bisexual is some “red wine.” (Kehlani tweeted last week that the lyrics were "harmful.") The song has also been criticized for being written mostly by men.
Cardi tweeted: “We never try to cause harm or had bad intentions with the song. I personally myself had experiences with other woman ,shiieeett with a lot of woman ! I thought the song was a good song and i remember my experience .”
She also apologized for using a derogatory word for lesbians in the past. “I know i have use words before that I wasn’t aware that they are offensive to the LGBT community,” she tweeted. “I apologize for that .Not everybody knows the correct ‘terms ‘to use. I learned and I stopped using it.”
Cardi had taken her Twitter and Instagram profiles offline following a spat with Azealia Banks.
Cardi’s tweets came a day after Ora took to Twitter to apologize. She said the song is “an accurate account of a very real and honest experience in my life.”
Ora added: “I have had romantic relationships with women and men throughout my life and this is my personal journey. I am sorry how I expressed myself in my song has hurt anyone.”
