Okurrr could soon be Okurrr™.
Cardi B is seeking to trademark her signature trill, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
On March 12, the rap star’s Washpoppin Inc. filed an application to trademark the word for use on clothing – “namely, T-shirts, sweatshirts, hooded sweatshirts, pants, shorts, jackets, footwear, headgear, namely hats and caps, blouses, bodysuits, dresses, jumpsuits, leggings, shirts, sweaters, undergarments.”
A day earlier, it filed to trademark Okurrr for “paper goods, namely paper cups and posters.”
According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Cardi’s company applied in February to trademark the same word, spelled with only two Rs.
Back in 2011, the word “OKUR” was successfully trademarked by a Texas-based company for audio electronics.
The rapper, whose real name is Belcalis Almánzar, was granted a trademark for “Cardi B” last December in relation to “entertainment services, namely, live, televised and movie appearances by a professional entertainer.”
Records show that Cardi has also approved an application by California company Fashion Nova Inc. to trademark a stylized version of her name for “computerized on-line ordering featuring general consumer merchandise; Computerized on-line ordering services in the field of apparel, fashion accessories, jewelry, and footwear; On-line retail store services featuring apparel, fashion accessories, jewelry, and footwear.”
