Country superstar Carrie Underwood is feeling the wrath of a Christian organization because she supports equal marriage.
The American Family Association (AFA) is ticked off because Underwood made a surprise appearance at Passion 2017, an evangelical conference for youth in Atlanta this month.
Underwood, whose “Church Bells” is up for Country Song of the Year at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, joined David Crowder on stage to perform her 2014 hit "Something in the Water.”
But, in an open letter to the event’s founder, Louie Giglio, the AFA’s Wesley Wildmon complained: “Carrie Underwood encourages and supports homosexual marriage which the Word of God does not.”
He said he was “very frustrated that you would allow her to help lead thousands of people in worship. My frustration quickly turned to disappointment and then to sadness.
“God is right about marriage and Carrie Underwood is wrong.”
Underwood, whose debut single in 2005 was “Jesus Take The Wheel” (co-written by Canada’s Gordie Sampson), has not publicly responded to the criticism.
Married to Canadian hockey player Mike Fisher since 2010, Underwood once told British newspaper The Independent: "I don't know what it's like to be told I can't marry somebody I love, and want to marry. I can't imagine how that must feel.
"I definitely think we should all have the right to love, and love publicly, the people that we want to love.”

The singer was raised Baptist and, while living in Ottawa with Fisher in 2009, the couple reportedly attended an evangelical church called The Bridge.
In her 2012 interview with The Independent, Underwood said she and Fisher currently attend a non-denominational church.
"Our church is gay friendly," she said. "Above all, God wanted us to love others.
“We have to love each other and get on with each other. It's not up to me to judge anybody.”
