Carrie Underwood has been announced as one of the performers set to honour President-elect Donald Trump at his presidential inauguration ceremony taking place at the U.S. Capitol on Monday, January 20.
The multiple Grammy winner will sing “America the Beautiful” with accompaniment by The Armed Forces Chorus and the The United States Naval Academy Glee Club.
“I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event," Underwood said in a statement. "I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”
According to the official program, which was leaked on X, Underwood will perform just before Trump takes the presidential oath of office to become the 47th president of the United States.
Previously Jennifer Lopez performed both “America the Beautiful” and “This Land Is Your Land” for President Joe Biden at his 2021 inauguration ceremony.
Back in 2017, Underwood poked fun at Trump, then President, while hosting the CMA Awards with Brad Paisley. During the opening monologue, the two parodied Underwood's 2005 hit “Before He Cheats" and mocked Trump's trigger finger on social media, singing, “And it’s fun to watch, yeah, that’s for sure/’til little Rocket Man starts a nuclear war … and then maybe next time, he’ll think before he tweets.”
The Associated Press reports that Inauguration Day will consist of tea at the White House, the swearing-in ceremony at the Capitol, a congressional luncheon, a parade on Pennsylvania Avenue and a trio of balls.
“The 2025 inaugural celebrations will reflect President-elect Trump’s historic return to the White House and the American people’s decisive vote to Make America Great Again,” said Steve Witkoff and Kelly Loeffler, co-chairs of the inaugural committee.
