Carrie Underwood was a fan favourite at Wednesday night’s CMT Music Awards, where “Cry Pretty” was named Video of the Year and “Love Wins” won Female Video of the Year.
Underwood holds on to the title of most-awarded act the CMT Music Awards, with 20.
The country star, who attended the show in Nashville with Ontario-born husband Mike Fisher, gave a fiery performance of “Southbound” in front of The Parthenon in Centennial Park.
Toby Keith also took his act outdoors with a performance of “That's Country Bro” on Nashville’s Broadway followed by “Beer For My Horses” with Cole Swindell.
Other performances included Brett Young doing a medley of "Here Tonight” and "Water Runs Dry" with Boyz II Men and Thomas Rhett teaming up with hosts Little Big Town for “Don't Threaten Me With A Good Time."
Country music icon Tanya Tucker also took the stage for her 1972 hit “Delta Dawn,” joined by Brandi Carlile, RaeLynn, Lauren Alaina, Martina McBride, Trisha Yearwood, Deana Carter and Carly Pearce.
Kane Brown’s “Lose It” was voted Male Video of the Year and “Speechless” by Dan + Shay won Duo Video of the Year.
Group Video of the Year winner was Zac Brown Band for “Someone I Used to Know” – co-written by Canada’s Shawn Mendes. Brown used his acceptance speech to send a message to young artists. “Have courage to stand up against the machine, be yourself, work hard,” he said, “and one day you can stand up here and tell all the haters to f**k off!”
Ashley McBryde won Breakthrough Video of the Year (for “Girl Goin’ Nowhere”); Keith Urban’s “Coming Home” ft. Julia Michaels was named Collaborative Video of the Year; and CMT Performance of the Year was awarded to Luke Combs and Leon Bridges for “Beautiful Crazy.”
