Céline Dion has admitted the rare neurological disorder she suffers from feels "like somebody is strangling you.”
In a preview for her upcoming June 11 appearance on TODAY, Dion shared with co-host Hoda Kotb the severe pain and limitations she deals with due to Stiff-Person Syndrome.
“It’s like somebody is strangling you," she said. “It’s like someone is pushing your larynx. It is like you are talking, and you cannot go high or lower. It gets into a spasm."
Dion revealed that she experiences cramping to the point where “sometimes, when it’s very severe, it can break some ribs."
“It feels like if I point my feet, they will stay [in that position],” she added. “Or if I cook, my fingers, my hands will get in position. It’s cramping, but it’s like in a position of like, you cannot unlock them.”
Dion will be the focus of I Am: Celine Dion, the forthcoming Prime Video documentary about her battle with Stiff-Person syndrome, that will be released on June 25.
While she is not able to return to the stage, Dion admitted in an April interview with VOGUE France that she still has the will, the passion and the determination to perform for her fans once again.
