Céline Dion has been ordered by the California Labor Commission to continue paying millions of dollars to the agent who negotiated her most recent touring contract.
A lawyer for the Canadian singer said they will appeal the ruling by commission lawyer David Gurley.
“I feel betrayed,” Dion said, in a statement to Billboard.
At a hearing, Dion argued she never agreed to pay Rob Prinz of ICM Partners for 10 years for doing “a few months’ work.” In her statement to Billboard, she said: “I’m not saying that Mr. Prinz did not do anything, but he’s taking much more credit for my career than he deserves.”
Prinz filed a complaint with the California Labor Commission after Dion fired him and stopped paying his commission. He argued there was an agreement for him to earn 1.5 percent commission (about $7,500) for Céline residency shows in Las Vegas and 3 percent (at least $32,250) for Dion’s Courage World Tour shows.
Gurley said he found some of Dion’s testimony “not credible” and ruled that Prinz had a binding agreement with the superstar singer.
