She doesn’t make the same kind of headlines as Justin Bieber, she doesn’t party at hotspots around the world like Drake, and she doesn’t attract legions of screaming girls like Shawn Mendes.
But, Celine Dion is arguably the year’s most successful Canadian artist.
The 48-year-old mother of three, who lost her beloved husband René Angélil in January following a long battle with cancer, has one of the biggest-selling albums in the world and recently finished one of the top-grossing tours.
Dion’s French-language album Encore un soir was No. 1 in several countries, including Belgium, Canada, France, Switzerland and Taiwan. It also made the Top 10 in places like Czech Republic, Holland, Italy, Poland and South Korea.
Encore un soir even cracked the Billboard chart in the U.S. — Dion’s first French album to do so.
In France, Dion’s album set a record for biggest first-week sales for any female artist and is currently the second-biggest album of the year with sales of more than 400,000.
At the end of September, the Quebec native earned a Francophone Female Artist of the Year nomination at the NRJ Music Awards, which will be handed out Nov. 12 in Cannes.
In Canada, Dion's album has stayed in the Top 5 on the Billboard chart for five weeks. (Encore un soir remains No. 1 on the Quebec albums chart.)
On top of her album’s success, Dion’s 28 concerts this summer grossed more than $64 million (all figures Canadian), according to Billboard Boxscore. This includes 17 sold-out shows in her home province and sell-out concerts in Paris and Antwerp, Belgium.
Dion is wrapping up her incredible year back at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas.
