Chrissie Hynde is once again being criticized for sharing her views on what women choose to wear.
“How you dress and how you present yourself to the world is totally how people will treat you,” the 68-year-old Pretenders singer told The Sydney Morning Herald earlier this month. “All these so-called feminists who complain because people treat them like they're hookers? Well, put some clothes on!
“If you walk around looking like a sex worker you will probably be treated like one.”
Cue the social media outrage. “Hey Chrissie Hynde, get f**ked,” read one tweet. Another opined “she can go screw herself.”
One person on Twitter noted: "Maybe we should also treat sex workers better? Just a thought..."
It’s so disappointing to hear women I have admired for along time like Chrissie Hynde victim blaming women for how they dress. Internalised misogyny is the most hateful and dangerous of all.

I see that Chrissie Hynde has been attacked by the usual suspects for stating the obvious, that women who dress like sex workers cant be expected to be seen as nuns!

In 2015, Hynde created a stir when she said women who dress provocatively should not be surprised when they are sexual assaulted.
“If I’m walking around and I’m very modestly dressed and I’m keeping to myself and someone attacks me, then I’d say that’s his fault,” she told the UK’s Sunday Times Magazine. “But if I’m being very lairy and putting it about and being provocative, then you are enticing someone who’s already unhinged – don’t do that. Come on! That’s just common sense. You know, if you don’t want to entice a rapist, don’t wear high heels so you can’t run from him.
“If you’re wearing something that says ‘Come and f**k me’, you’d better be good on your feet ... I don’t think I’m saying anything controversial am I?”
