Christina Aguilera is mourning the loss of one of her longtime confidantes: her dog of almost two decades named Stinky. Earlier this weekend, the 37-year-old pop star took to social media to reveal that she had to make the decision to put the canine to sleep.
In the post, which was published on Saturday and featured a slideshow of photos of her and the Papillon canine to Kendrick Lamar's "LOYALTY," Aguilera shared some sweet words for her late friend. "I had to finally make the hard decision to put my beloved Stinky down last night after an amazing 17 years together!" she captioned the video on Instagram. "You were my roadie through the tours…breakups…life’s many ups and downs…my 1st baby before I had any babies…The one and only forever RIP, Stinky."
No word on the condition or what particular health issues Stinky might have been struggling with, but the canine had been around the star for most of her career. In fact, Stinky used to accompany Aguilera on the road and last hit the tour bus back in 2008. "Run free and with no more misery," she concluded the post, which has gone on to garner over 119,000 likes.
Stinky was a gift from then-boyfriend and tour backup dancer Jorge Santos, according to Pier Dominguez's 2002 book Christina Aguilera: A Star is Made : the Unauthorized Biography. Hardcore Xtina fans might recognize him as that backup dancer that she was frequently seen with prior to her Stripped era.
