Corey Hart, who dominated the Canadian pop music scene in the ‘80s, announced Thursday he’s heading out aross Canada next summer on the Never Surrender Tour.
The 16-city trek, which takes its name from Hart's 1985 hit, statrts in St. John's on May 31 (Hart's 57th birthday) and wraps up June 25 in Vancouver. Tickets go on sale Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. local time.
"It just felt right to do it now," Hart said of the tour, during a Facebook Live session in Toronto.
During the session, the Montreal native admitted he doesn’t have a driver’s license and “loathes” social media (he believes it’s “an illness.”) The singer also got emotional as he reflected on growing up with a father whose bad behaviour inspired him not to drink, smoke or do drugs – and to be a good father.
Hart revealed his first collection of new music in two decades is coming in the form of Dreaming Time Again, a five-song EP produced by fellow Canadian Bob Ezrin.
He also debuted a song called "Another December," which he said is a tribute to his late mother. (Hart recalled that he caught "a nasty cold" while shooting the video in Montreal.)
Hart’s 1983’s debut First Offense earned him Juno and Grammy nominations, and he followed it in 1985 with Boy in the Box, which sold more than a million copies in Canada.
In addition to his signature hit, “Sunglasses At Night” (which reached No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100), Hart enjoyed success with the ballad “Never Surrender” as well as “Everything in My Heart” and a cover of Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love.”
His most recent studio album was 1998’s Jade, although Hart has released a handful of singles and performed some live shows in recent years.
The singer and his wife, Quebec singer Julie Masse, live in Bahamas with their four children.
