This month's induction on Canada's Walk of Fame was a long time coming for Corey Hart, the '80s pop star who sold millions of records, earned a Grammy nomination and won numerous Juno Awards.
"There's nothing that comes close to it," the Montreal native told CBC. "This is the most meaningful career event of my life.
"I always wanted to write music, and I always wanted to touch people with what I did. To be recognized by my country for my body of work and what I've accomplished in my lifetime is beyond humbling."
Hart had huge success with hits like "Sunglasses At Night," "Never Surrender" and "Boy In The Box." Now 54, he and his wife, Quebec singer Julie Masse, and their children divide their time between Bahamas and Spain.
Hart was honoured at a ceremony Oct. 6 in Toronto along with NHL Hall of Famer Darryl Sittler, actor Jason Priestley, filmmaker Deepa Mehta, veteran fashion entrepreneur and journalist Jeanne Beker, and the late actor Al Waxman.
Country singer Brett Kissel was given the Allan Slaight Honour, which is presented to a "young Canadian making a positive impact in the music industry."
The gala airs Dec. 18 on Global.
