Country singer Kalie Shorr is fighting back against accusations she used COVID-19 to promote new music.
On Monday, the 25-year-old tweeted that despite being quarantined for three weeks, she “managed to contract COVID-19.” Admitting that she felt “significantly better,” Shorr said it was “endlessly frustrating” to see people not taking the virus seriously.
In another tweet, the singer shared: “The first few days were absolutely miserable. I've never felt like that before. My entire body was in pain, and my fever was like riding a wave. I completely lost my sense of taste and smell.”
Shorr followed up the tweets about COVID-19 with a plug for a new song with Ian McConnell that drops Friday.
That sparked criticism from a pair of Twitter trolls.
“I've never heard of you till you say you got the Covid,” commented Mark Wagner, who had 12 followers at the time. "Bad look even if its (sic) coincidental.”
Seth Adams, who had no followers, tweeted “Oh man, who didn't see this one coming… it’s completely feasible that your ‘pre save’ comes out the day your test results come back.”
He added: “I’m almost positive you made this up. The day before you’re watching Tiger King, and then today youre (sic) sicker than you’ve ever been and then 8 hours later, you’re promoting your new song.”
Shorr was having none of it.
“I was at my worst a week ago, the test results finally came in today. I was speaking past tense,” she replied to Adams. “Also – you think [COVID-19] gives a s**t when my song comes out? Trust me, I’m irritated too.
“This is so rude to insinuate I would do something that insane. Go crawl back in your hole.”
She added: “There is 0% chance of me taking the high road with twitter trolls when I am trapped in my house with no other drama on the horizon. Sometimes the New England just needs to come out, you know?”
