Courtney Love has announced that Hole will be back at some point in the future.
The grunge icon appeared on stage in London last night (February 27) with Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong who was performing an intimate show with his side-project, a covers band called The Coverups.
During a set that included songs by Tom Petty, Cheap Trick, David Bowie, The Clash, and Nirvana, she introduced herself to the crowd, suggesting it's been a while since she's done something like this.
“My name is Courtney Love – you may not remember me," she said from the stage. "I’ve been living in a cave in Birmingham for about nine years. We’ll give this a f**king try, right?”
Towards the end of the set, Love gave fans the news they'd been waiting for: that Hole will be reuniting once again.
“Later… I’ll be back in Hole,” Love said before leaving.
Formed by Love and guitarist Eric Erlandson in Los Angeles, CA in 1989, Hole ascended during the alt-rock revolution of the early '90s, alongside bands like Mudhoney, Sonic Youth, Smashing Pumpkins, Dinosaur Jr and of course, Nirvana, whose frontman Kurt Cobain would marry Love.
Following the release of three albums - 1991's Pretty On The Inside, 1994's Live Through This and 1998's Celebrity Skin - Hole broke up in 2002, which led to a brief solo career for Love. She reformed Hole again in 2010, in name only, and released fourth album, Nobody's Daughter.
Since then, various versions of the band have made public appearances, including the classic lineup of Love, Erlandson, Patty Schemel and Melissa Auf Der Maur, with rumblings of a reunion. However, nothing ever surfaced. So we'll have to see which variant appears should this actually happen.
