Cyndi Lauper is showing her true colours when it comes to her love for dogs.
In a Facebook post on Sept. 28, the singer shared her disappointment with Montreal’s recent vote to ban pit bulls.
“Such a sad day Montreal,” Lauper wrote. “When will people stop blaming a breed.”
City councillors voted to prohibit new ownership of pit bulls and similar breeds of dogs beginning Oct. 3.
“There are many amazing pit bull and pit bull mixes out there,” Lauper, 63, wrote on Facebook. “There are also vicious dogs of other breeds.”
The “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” star called Montreal’s bylaw “unjust.”
“It's not the dog, it's who is training and often mistreating them that should be banned,” she opined.
“Thousands of shelter dogs now stand to be euthanized and also pulled out of their homes.”
Lauper encouraged those who agree with her to sign an online petition created in August by the Dog Legislation Council of Canada.
Hundreds of Lauper’s fans shared their outrage as well as photos of their beloved pit bulls.
“Thank you for speaking up for our Montreal dogs, Cyndi,” commented Linda Wasyliw.
