Rapper DaBaby apologized Sunday after a video emerged showing him hitting a female fan in the face.
The clip shows DaBaby striking Tyronesha Laws, who is holding her phone up in front of him as he makes his way through the crowd at an event in Tampa on Saturday night.
In a message on Instagram Story, DaBaby (whose real name is Jonathan Kirk) said he didn’t know the person holding the phone was female.
“I do sincerely apologize. I do,” he said. “I’m very sorry that there was a female on the other end of that flashlight on their phone. But you know, keep in mind, I couldn’t see you because you got the flash this close to me. Which is okay, it’s no problem. A lot of people did — they didn’t put it as close as you put it — but a lot of people had flash on me, and that’s okay. That’s what I signed up for.”
DaBaby went on to offer some advice for amateur paparazzi. “Just zoom in instead of popping me in the motherf**king eye with the phone.”
The rap star offered to apologize to the fan in person. “I would love to make the situation better any way I can.”
According to TMZ, Laws has retained a lawyer.
