Look out, Drake... the Dalai Lama is dropping an album next month.
The spiritual leader of the Tibetan people contributed mantras and chants that have been set to music for Inner World, which will be released on his 85th birthday on July 6.
New Zealand musician Jungle Kunin, a practicing Buddhist, first pitched the idea to the Dalai Lama five years ago and worked with husband Abraham to create the collection. Sitar player Anoushka Shankar, daughter of Ravi Shankar, plays on one of the 11 tracks.
Net proceeds from the sale of the album will benefit the Mind & Life Institute and Social, Emotional and Ethical Learning, an international education program developed by Emory University and the Dalai Lama.
“The entire purpose of this project is to try to help people,” Kunin told the Associated Press. “The messages couldn’t be more poignant for our current social climate and needs as humanity.”
