Singer Darius Rucker and wife Beth Leonard shared news on Saturday that they are ending their 20-year marriage.
“Beth and I would like to share that after much reflection we have made the decision to consciously uncouple,” the couple wrote in a message on social media, borrowing a phrase Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay’s Chris Martin used in 2014 when they announced their separation.
“We remain close friends and parenting partners and continue to be each other’s biggest cheerleaders. Our priority will always be our beautiful family.”
Rucker and Leonard, who met in 1998 when he was touring with Hootie & the Blowfish, married in 2000 and have daughter Daniella, 19, and son Jack, 15, together. Rucker also has daughter Cary, 25, from a previous relationship.
“We have so much love in our hearts for each other and will continue to encourage growth and expansion in one another,” the pair’s statement read. “Please be kind as we take on this journey, and we thank you for your love and support always.”
Rucker shot to fame with Hootie & the Blowfish’s 1994 debut Cracked Rear View and relaunched as a country singer in 2008.
