Foo Fighters frontman and ex-Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl says one thing people don't understand about Nirvana is how much fun it was.
For years after Kurt Cobain's death, Grohl avoided questions about Nirvana. But in recent years, Grohl has been more keen on fielding them.
In an interview with British GQ posted online last month, Grohl offered a glimpse of what Nirvana was really like.
"It wasn't always a bummer," he said. "There were times when it was so outrageously hilarious and fun. Kurt had an amazing sense of humour and Krist Novoselic, if you've ever spent time with him, is one of the funniest people you've ever met.
Grohl went on to describe daily life in Nirvana.
"It's kind of like living in a loud, distorted version of Monty Python. And so when it gets dark, it gets f***ing dark (laughs). But when it's not, it's f***ing hilarious."
Grohl says most people imagine Nirvana was just bleak and grim all the time.
"It just wasn't," he insists. "There were times that were really great."
Elsewhere in the interview, Grohl recalls a near-death experience while surfing, why he wishes he could spend more time with George W. Bush and why he doesn't mind Noel Gallagher's insults.
