Rod Stewart has been served divorce papers twice in his lifetime, and the first time he was actually by actor David Schwimmer.
The Friends star appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert earlier this week, and when he was asked about jobs he held before making it big in Hollywood, Ross Geller himself admitted that he once served Rod the Mod while working for his mom, who was a divorce attorney at the time.
“One summer after my freshman year in college, I was just looking for work, and my mom said, ‘Well, you can be a process server for me,'” Schwimmer told Colbert. “My mom was a divorce lawyer, and I was the guy who would pop out of the bushes and serve you divorce papers.”
Schwimmer said the "unique" vocation had him feeling like James Bond at times, but none more when he had to serve the 80-year-old rock star.
“Once, oh man, thank goodness I’ve never run into him since, but I served Rod Stewart,” recalled Schwimmer. “I don’t even know if he knows. I don’t think he knows.”
“He knows now. Change your locks, man. He’s vengeful!” Colbert replied. “You could theoretically run into Rod Stewart sometime and now he knows to punch you.”
Seeing as Schwimmer was born in 1966 and worked for his mom as a teenager, Stewart's divorce was most likely with his first wife, Alana Stewart, which ended in 1984.
Rod Stewart married super model Rachel Hunter in 1990, and the two divorced in 2006, long after Schwimmer had become one of TV's biggest stars, so he definitely wouldn't have been serving papers for that one.
In 2007, Stewart wed Penny Lancaster, and the two have been happily married since. In fact, just today the couple met with King Charles to celebrate the 35th anniversary of The King's Foundation charity.
