Demi Lovato is earning raves for showcasing her true self in an Instagram post last Thursday.
“This is my biggest fear. A photo of me in a bikini unedited,” the pop star captioned a photo of herself stepping out of a pool. “And guess what, it’s CELLULIT!!!!”
Lovato, 27, explained she is tired of being ashamed of her body and having to edit bikini pics “so that others think I’m THEIR idea of what beautiful is.”
She wrote: “This is what I got. I want this new chapter in my life to be about being authentic to who I am rather than trying to meet someone else’s standards. So here’s me, unashamed, unafraid and proud to own a body that has fought through so much and will continue to amaze me when I hopefully give birth one day.”
Lovato, who nearly died of a drug overdose last year, recently taped a guest appearance on Will & Grace and revealed in her Instagram post that she is in the studio “working on an anthem.” She hasn't released a studio album since 2017's Tell Me You Love Me.
The singer urged her fans and followers to love themselves. “I’m not stoked on my appearance BUT I am appreciative of it and sometimes that’s the best I can do,” said Lovato.
“I hope to inspire someone to appreciate their body today too.”
Lovato’s post is getting plenty of approval and supportive comments, including from singer Bebe Rexha and model Ashley Graham.
In a follow-up Instagram Story, Lovato said she was still shaking. “That was so hard for me to post,” she wrote. “But wow… so blown away by the love and support. Let’s be the change we want to see!!!”
