The video for the original version of “Despacito” was temporarily taken off video streaming sites after hackers got in and replaced it with an image of masked people holding guns.
Vevo and YouTube pulled down the Luis Fonsi ft. Daddy Yankee video – which is has been viewed a whopping 5 billion times – after the hack was discovered Monday. It has since been reposted.
Also hacked were videos by acts like Drake, Taylor Swift, Maroon 5, Selena Gomez, Katy Perry, and Shakira. The made-in-Canada video for Adele’s “Hello” was also accessed.
“After seeing unusual upload activity on a handful of VEVO channels, we worked quickly with out partner to disable access while they investigate the issue,” a spokesperson for YouTube said, in a statement.
One of the alleged hackers, who uses the name Prosox, tweeted at Vevo: “You have all my respect but do not leave the control to your site to any developer did not take into account this hacking it was a fun if we would like to harm your customers we would delete all the video but I did not delete despacito must believe me.”
